Friends of St Mary’s is an organisation whose sole purpose
is to raise funds for the preservation and restoration of St. Mary’s Church. It
raises funds in a number of ways: by donations, life and annual membership and
by carrying out fund raising activities.
Many people have fond memories of St Mary’s: taking part
in worship; their wedding; a child’s baptism; the peace of the churchyard; the
chiming of the clock; the ringing of the bells; or the support they have felt at
a funeral. Many would be saddened if St. Mary’s were to fall into a state of
disrepair and as you will appreciate the onus of raising money rests with the
people who use the church and those who would miss it if it was not there.
The church was built in 1152 and has been looked after by
successive generations it is up to us to look after it for future
generations.
Friends of St. Mary’s invite you to share in the preservation of the historic parish church of St. Mary the Virgin
