Chancel Window

The beautiful stained glass window on the south side of the Chancel was smashed by vandals and had to be boarded up. This window has now been restored. On Wednesday 26 October members of the congregation enjoyed a service in the Chancel with the sunshine flooding through the restored window.

We do ask that members of the public using the public footpaths through the Churchyard report anything
that they think may be suspicious.

Lead Stolen from Church Roof

In September the church suffered broken windows and within a few days, thieves had got onto the roof of the Church and had stolen or damaged approximately 50sq. metres of lead from the South Aisle roof. We are very grateful for the keen observation of a couple of local residents who were walking through the churchyard and noticed some small pieces of lead on the ground, otherwise we might not have realised what had occurred [the roof is hidden by the parapets, and cannot be seen from the ground] until rain started dripping through the bared timbers.

We are, of course, insured against vandalism, but it doesn’t detract from the fact that premiums are inevitably higher because of wanton damage; there is an excess to pay for each incident and the immense amount of time that is involved in organising the repairs. The insurance companies have now capped the amount that they are paying out due to this type of theft being prevalent. Without these incidents the police, the clergy and churchwardens, our architect and many other people would have been able to spend many hours on more profitable tasks.

Please can all of you be vigilant as you pass through the Churchyard and alert the police, Vicar, Churchwardens or other member of the congregation if you see anything suspicious or unusual taking place in the vicinity of church property.

Church magazine is available from the first Sunday of each month, except January and August, from the church; price £5 for a year's subscription or 50 pence a copy.
